Philosophy
SFHDC believes that affordable housing produces equity for low and moderate income families by providing them with the resources they need to increase their net-worth and assets. This statistically results in social and economic stability, more educational achievements, civic participation, and reduced crime rates and violence.
History
San Francisco Housing Development Corporation (SFHDC) was established in 1988 as a community-based, non-profit corporation focused on reversing gentrification in minority communities and the displacement of African Americans, in the city of San Francisco, due largely to the government’s use of imminent domain and the areas lack of affordable housing.
Origin
Founded in 1988 by civic and community leaders of both the Western Addition and Bayview Hunters Point to prevent the displacement of minorities from the city of San Francisco.
Financial Strength
As a non-profit agency, SFHDC is supported by a diverse group of funders. We operate strictly on tax-deductible donations made by individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies.
